Heart Health Assessment Close to Home

An electrocardiogram (ECG) is one of the most valuable non-invasive tools in cardiac assessment — measuring the electrical activity of the heart to identify rhythm disturbances, conduction abnormalities and signs of ischaemia or prior infarction.

At Peninsula MDC Mornington, we perform 12-lead resting ECGs on-site with same-visit GP interpretation. Whether requested for cardiac symptoms, pre-operative clearance, insurance requirements or routine health assessment, your ECG tracing is reviewed promptly and results discussed with you at your appointment.

An electrocardiogram (ECG) is among the most valuable and widely used diagnostic tools in general practice — providing real-time information about heart rate, rhythm and conduction at low cost and with no patient discomfort. At Peninsula MDC Mornington, 12-lead resting ECGs are performed by trained clinical staff and interpreted by your GP at the same consultation, enabling rapid clinical decision-making. Our clinic also has a visiting cardiologist available for patients requiring specialist-level cardiac assessment and investigation.

What We Offer

Resting 12-Lead ECG

The standard clinical ECG records electrical activity from 12 different perspectives simultaneously, providing a comprehensive view of heart rate, rhythm and conduction.

Cardiac Symptom Evaluation

ECGs are indicated for evaluation of palpitations, chest pain, shortness of breath, dizziness and syncope — providing immediate diagnostic information to guide management.

Pre-Operative Cardiac Clearance

Surgical teams require ECG evidence of cardiac fitness before elective procedures, particularly for patients over 50 or with cardiovascular risk factors.

Insurance & Employment Medicals

Life insurance, income protection and employment medicals frequently include ECG requirements — performed and reported efficiently at our clinic.

Hypertension & Diabetes Monitoring

Patients with hypertension or longstanding diabetes benefit from periodic ECG surveillance to detect asymptomatic cardiac changes.

Medication Monitoring

Certain medications affect cardiac conduction (e.g. antiarrhythmics, QT-prolonging drugs). Periodic ECG monitoring ensures patient safety during treatment.

03

Integrated Cardiac Care

Our clinic also offers on-site cardiology (visiting specialist), pathology and chronic disease management — creating a seamless pathway for cardiac health.

Common Questions

An ECG (electrocardiogram) is a non-invasive test that records the electrical activity of your heart via electrode patches placed on your chest, arms and legs. It takes approximately 10 minutes.

No — an ECG is completely painless. You simply lie still while electrode patches are attached and the machine records your heart's activity for approximately 30 seconds.

An ECG can detect atrial fibrillation, heart block, bundle branch block, previous myocardial infarction, left ventricular hypertrophy, electrolyte abnormalities and other cardiac conditions.

No special preparation is needed. Wear comfortable, accessible clothing. Avoid applying lotions or oils to your chest. Rest quietly for a few minutes before the test for an accurate resting trace.

If your ECG reveals an abnormality requiring further investigation or specialist management, your GP will arrange urgent or non-urgent referral to our visiting cardiologist or a local specialist.
