Effective Treatment Without the Hospital Wait

Earwax build-up is one of the most common causes of conductive hearing loss and blocked ear sensation. Our clinical team performs gentle, effective ear syringing and microsuction wax removal — providing immediate relief without the need for specialist referral in most cases.

Iron deficiency anaemia affects millions of Australians, causing debilitating fatigue, brain fog and reduced exercise capacity. When oral iron supplements are insufficient or not tolerated, intravenous iron infusion is a highly effective alternative — and we perform these safely at our Mornington clinic under GP supervision, avoiding hospital day procedures.

Earwax impaction affects up to 6% of the general population and is one of the most common causes of preventable hearing impairment in both adults and children. At Peninsula MDC Mornington, we assess every patient before syringing to confirm it is appropriate and safe — patients with a history of perforated eardrum or grommets are directed to microsuction instead. For iron infusions, our clinic uses evidence-based ferric carboxymaltose (Ferinject) protocols with appropriate pre-infusion assessment and post-infusion monitoring, providing a safe alternative to hospital-based infusion services.

What We Offer

Ear Canal Assessment

Visual examination of the ear canal and eardrum using an otoscope to confirm wax impaction and assess suitability for syringing or microsuction.

Ear Syringing (Irrigation)

Warm water irrigation to gently flush earwax from the ear canal. We recommend softening earwax with olive oil drops for 3–5 days prior to the procedure for best results.

Microsuction Wax Removal

A dry method using a fine suction instrument under direct vision — preferred for perforated eardrums, previous ear surgery or failed irrigation. Safe, precise and effective.

IV Iron Infusion (Ferinject)

A single intravenous dose of ferric carboxymaltose (Ferinject) delivered over 15 minutes, providing rapid and sustained replenishment of iron stores — often resulting in significant energy improvement within weeks.

Pre-Infusion Assessment

Your GP reviews recent ferritin, iron studies and haemoglobin results before infusion to confirm clinical indication and select the appropriate iron preparation and dose.

Post-Infusion Monitoring

All infusion patients are monitored in clinic for 30 minutes post-infusion. A follow-up blood test at 6–8 weeks confirms response and guides further management.

Why Patients Choose Peninsula MDC

01

No Hospital Required

Both ear syringing and IV iron infusions are performed safely and comfortably at our Mornington clinic — saving you hospital day procedure queues.

02

Immediate & Sustained Results

Ear syringing provides immediate hearing improvement. IV iron infusions show lasting benefits with ferritin levels improving significantly within 4–6 weeks.

03

GP-Supervised Safety

All iron infusions are conducted under GP supervision with appropriate monitoring and management of any reactions — your safety is our first priority.

Common Questions

We recommend instilling olive oil ear drops (available from pharmacies) twice daily for 3–5 days before your appointment to soften the wax, making removal more comfortable and effective.

Ear syringing is safe for most patients. It is not suitable for those with a perforated eardrum, previous ear surgery, grommets or active ear infection. Your GP will assess suitability before proceeding.

Ferinject (ferric carboxymaltose) is an intravenous iron preparation given as a slow infusion into a vein in your arm. The infusion itself takes approximately 15 minutes, and you are monitored for a further 30 minutes before discharge.

Many patients notice improved energy and reduced fatigue within 1–2 weeks of an iron infusion. Full response is typically seen at 4–8 weeks, confirmed by a follow-up blood test.

Yes — your GP will assess your iron studies and clinical history to confirm an IV iron infusion is appropriate before the procedure is scheduled.
