Many minor surgical procedures that were once only performed in hospitals or day surgery centres can now be safely and efficiently managed in a well-equipped general practice. At Peninsula MDC Mornington, our GPs are trained in a comprehensive range of minor procedures — saving you the inconvenience and expense of a hospital visit.
All procedures are conducted under strict sterile technique in our procedure room. Local anaesthetic is used to ensure your comfort, and aftercare instructions are provided at the time of the procedure to support optimal healing.
Peninsula MDC Mornington is equipped with a dedicated procedure room that meets infection control standards and contains the instruments needed for a comprehensive range of minor surgical procedures. Our GPs are trained in minor surgical techniques and regularly perform cryotherapy, skin biopsies, toenail surgery and wound management as part of routine general practice. Post-procedure aftercare instructions are provided at every appointment, and follow-up reviews are scheduled to confirm wound healing and remove sutures when indicated.

Tissue sampling of suspicious skin lesions for histopathological analysis — essential for confirming or excluding skin cancer diagnoses.
Partial nail avulsion (PNA) or total nail avulsion for chronic or recurrent ingrown toenails, with phenol matrix ablation to prevent recurrence.
Professional wound assessment and dressing of lacerations, abrasions, post-surgical wounds and localised burns — supporting optimal healing and infection prevention.
Removal of benign skin lesions including skin tags, sebaceous cysts and epidermoid cysts by excision or ligation under local anaesthetic.
Incision and drainage (I&D) of localised skin abscesses under local anaesthetic, with wound packing and aftercare instructions for complete resolution.

We provide written aftercare instructions and arrange follow-up appointments to review wound healing and remove sutures when required.
No referral is needed — you can book directly with your GP. Your GP will assess the procedure requirements at your consultation before scheduling.
Local anaesthetic is administered before all procedures involving incision. You may feel a brief sting from the local anaesthetic injection, but the procedure itself should be pain-free.
Most minor procedures take 15–45 minutes including local anaesthetic application, the procedure and dressing. Allow extra time for a pre-procedure consultation if it is your first visit.
Avoid blood-thinning medications (aspirin, ibuprofen) for 48 hours before if safe to do so. Eat normally unless advised otherwise. Wear comfortable clothing that provides easy access to the area being treated.
Suture removal timing depends on the procedure site: face 5–7 days, scalp 7–10 days, body/limbs 10–14 days. Your GP will advise and we will schedule a follow-up appointment for removal.
