Keeping Mornington Drivers Licensed & Safe on the Road

Driving medicals are a legal requirement for commercial drivers, rideshare operators, taxi licence holders and drivers with certain medical conditions such as diabetes. Our Mornington GPs are familiar with Austroads medical standards and VicRoads requirements, ensuring your assessment is completed correctly the first time.

We assess vision, hearing, cardiovascular fitness, neurological function and condition-specific criteria as required. Completed VicRoads forms and medical certificates are issued at the same appointment where possible, minimising delays to your licence renewal or accreditation.

Commercial driving medicals in Victoria must comply with the Austroads publication 'Assessing Fitness to Drive' — and our Mornington GPs are thoroughly familiar with these guidelines, including the specific requirements for insulin-treated diabetic drivers, heavy vehicle operators, bus drivers and commercial passenger vehicle operators. All required VicRoads forms are completed at the appointment, and most drivers leave our clinic with their documentation in hand. We keep appointment slots available for urgent licence renewal situations — please call (03) 5975 0000.

Common Questions

Bring your current driver's licence, any relevant VicRoads forms or accreditation paperwork, a list of your current medications, and glasses or contact lenses if you use them for driving.

Most driving medicals take 20–40 minutes. Complex assessments (e.g. conditional licence reviews or diabetic driver assessments) may take longer.

Commercial Passenger Vehicle (taxi and rideshare) drivers in Victoria require an annual medical fitness assessment as part of their accreditation renewal.

Insulin-treated diabetic drivers require annual assessment including a review of your HbA1c, hypoglycaemia awareness, driving record and any relevant specialist letters. Your GP will complete the required Austroads form.

In most cases, yes — your GP will complete the form at the appointment. For conditional licences, VicRoads may require additional documentation from specialists before processing.
